First, I must say I was hesitant about buying the Apple Watch. Mainly because of the hype and afraid it wouldn’t live up to my expectations. I knew it was a watch but was really afraid it was going to disappoint me. It’s been a long time since I wore a watch so how would it be for comfort as well as functionality.
In summary, I couldn’t be more happier with the purchase. First, if you are looking for a watch to replace your phone or tablet, you will be disappointed. It’s a watch… yep, a watch (don’t make me say it a 3rd time). It’s not going to be able to do everything you want but it sure works great for notifications. That for the most part is what it is. Notifications for texts, Facebook chats, phone calls, and many apps such as Slack (which we use at work), Calendar reminders, Banking at a glance, Apple Pay, and many other apps that you use regularly.
So why would I be so happy with a notification system on my wrist? Well first, I don’t keep my volume on or the vibrate on my phone. The haptic pulse is perfect in alerting me there is a message. One of the reasons I don’t keep my volume on or the vibrate is that the sound notifications becomes annoying. A gentle pulse on my wrist allows me to either ignore it, or raise my hand and quickly see who it’s from, and what the message is. I can then choose to respond or save it for later. I also no longer have to take my phone out of my pocket to check the time. It has Siri built in for Shazam or to respond to texts, messages, and set alarms or reminders. You can even make phone calls with it.
Next is the interface and the ability to change the design, and customize the faces. Do I wish there were more options there, definitely, but I’m also happy with the customizations that are built in. I keep mine to display the sunrise and sunset and as the day goes by the light of day slowly fades from the display into darkness. It’s pretty cool I will say.
Finally, its light weight and easy to wear. It also looks pretty on my wrist. Can’t beat that one.
Overall I will say this. I’m really glad I caved in and bought it when everyone was telling me not to. I loved the idea of it and it hasn’t disappointed me yet although it is one week into it.
