From 2016 and still applies today (with many new reasons like trade wars, tanking our economy, Elon Musk and DOGE, and so may other things)

Friends, family and Facebook followers. I need to express this in the most intelligent way possible so that people understand the damage that was caused by voting for our current president of the United States.

With all the hatred and violence just throughout his campaign, by his supporters, I can not be friends with anyone that supports that. You may say that it’s too harsh but to me, and many of the people I know, he represents hatred on so many levels and I can’t — I won’t — have that kind of hatred in my life.

I have been fighting for equality since I came out in 1994. I have watched friends die of AIDS. I have witnessed horrors of gay bashing beyond belief. Lets not forget Omar Mateen, Pulse, Matthew Shephard, and many others who were brutally murdered because of hate. Voting for him means you support all that Ive fought against because everything I’ve done is at risk of being undone.

Not only for gay men and women but more so if you are a gay woman of any ethnicity other than white. We heard Make America Great Again. The time period it was great was when women didn’t vote, couldn’t have abortions or the right to vote, there was slavery, interracial relationships were against the law, and white men had complete power and money. Still today even without the outcome of the election we still have that privilege and although you may not see it, you are already special in this country if you’re white.

Not only will human rights be set back but everything accomplished in the last 8 years for our country will be changed. Affordable Care Act will be destroyed, our unemployment rate will go up, and our economy will struggle.

One reason 8 years ago that Obama won was on his platform we need change and he was the hope. I hope we see that sooner than later because we aren’t done needing hope. We need more of it than ever.
